A festive breakfast
Cut the panettone into 5-6 slices vertically, about 3/4 inch thick. Then cut each slice in half. In a shallow bowl whisk the eggs, sugar, half and half, vanilla, and orange zest.
Dip each bread slice in the egg mixture for a few seconds, then flip and repeat on the other side.
Allow some of the excess liquid egg to drip off. You don't want the bread to be too soggy.
Add the bread to a buttered pan over medium heat. When the butter starts to foam, add the bread and cook until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side. Serve with maple syrup and powdered sugar.
